We were touring Japan and this hotel has the best rooms by far of all the places we stayed in. For a start they are much larger than all the other hotels, but also the room we were in had a fantastic view. I thought we had been upgraded but apparently all rooms have a view. We’d definitely go back if we returned to Nagoya.

Nagoya

While staying at the Nagoya Hotel Marriott Associa you can experience the unique history of this booming port city. Nagoya is the fourth largest city in Japan with more than 2 million inhabitants and an industrial powerhouse, not just for the automotive sector where it’s the home of Toyota, Honda, and Mitsubishi Motors but also as a base for Brother, Makita, Suzuki, Noritake, NGK, Olympus, Yamaha and many more. Its motoring heritage has bequeathed the city wide boulevards which make it easy to access using a car – unusual in Japan.

In addition to being a great place to do business, this city also has numerous tourist attractions which Nagoya Castle are worth visiting, and probably the most recognisable of all is Nagoya Castle. The original structure was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War and was painstakingly rebuilt and completed in 1959, and houses a museum, gardens and observation deck. Other museums include the City Art Museum, Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art, Tokugawa Art Museum, City Science Museum, Museum of Fine Arts and Toyota Automobile Museum. A number of historic religious sites are also well worth a visit and include the Atsuta Shrine, Arako Kannon Temple, Osu Kannon Temple, Nittaiji Temple, Toganji Temple, Koshoji Temple and Shiroyama Hakusan Shrine. Other city attractions include Higashiyama Park Zoo & Funfair, Shirakawa Park, Hisaya-Odori Park, the Nagoya TV Tower and the Aquarium. Many of these places are only a short distance from the Nagoya Hotel Marriott.

Nagoya also has a surprisingly lively nightlife, infused by the many Brazilians of Japanese descent who have returned to the city as part of the economic boom. The Sakae district next to the Nagoya Hotel Marriott Associa and train station is the centre for nightlife in the city, with many bars serving inexpensive drinks. Like most of Japan, the area is perfectly safe to stroll around in the evenings.

The Nagoya Hotel Marriott Associa is also well placed for shopping as in the same building below it are the 11 floors of the renowned Takashimaya Department Store, and across the street is the 5-storey Bic Camera megastore for cameras and electronics.
